Christopher Rich, M.D. completed his undergraduate degree at LSU in Baton Rouge, followed by a Doctor of Medicine degree from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He finished his Orthpaedic Surgery Residency at LSU in 1988.

Dr Rich is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, with a successful Recertification with a specialty interest in sports medicine in 2000. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, a charter member of the Louisiana Sports Medicine Society, and a board member of the Louisiana Orthopaedic Association.

Dr. Rich has been the Head Team Physician for the Northwestern Demons since 1990. His practice specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder, and knee reconstruction. During his tenure at NSU, athletes that sustained an injury that required a surgery have an incredible rate of return to full sports competition of 99%.

In 1992 concerned about the quality of care student athletes were receiving in central Louisiana, Dr. Rich extended his practice by hiring Certified Athletic Trainers. Since 1995 the program has joint venture with CHRISTUS Louisiana Sports Medicine Center, and now employees 15 Athletic Trainers.

Dr. Rich also helped established a graduate level athletic training fellowship program with Northwestern State University. This program helps provide certified or state licensed Athletic Trainers to Central Louisiana, and allows athletic trainers to earn an advanced degree from the Department of Health and Human Performance at Northwestern State University.

Working with Dr. Carolyn Spears at Louisiana College, Dr. Rich was instrumental in the development of the undergraduate curriculum program in athletic training at LC. The program was certified in 2003. He now serves the curriculum as Medical Director, as well as Clinical Instructor.

Dr. Rich is the managing partner of Mid State Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center in Alexandria. Mid State, along with Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, was designated as #1 in Orthopaedics for the State of Louisiana for 2004 by HEALTHGRADES, "The Health Quality Experts".

A native of San Antonio, Dr. Rich was a three-year letterman in football as an offensive lineman at LSU from 1977 and 1978.

He is married to the former Vickie Rainey, and they have three children, Jeff, Margaret and Stacie. His hobbies include spending time with his family, golf, fishing, and duck hunting.
